Our Philosophy of Obstetrical Care
At RPW, we understand that pregnancy and childbirth, whether as a patient or partner, is one of the most incredible and miraculous events in one’s life. The range of emotions that accompany this journey can run the spectrum from joy and excitement to anxiety and fear.
Although our central mission is to help usher a healthy mother and a healthy baby through this process, we also believe in helping patients mentally, spiritually and emotionally every step of the way. We support patients in their choice of how they want their pregnancy and childbirth to proceed, recognizing that all things in nature cannot be controlled. We encourage patients to let us know what their desires or expectations are during labor and delivery. Patients are welcomed to share a birth plan with us, if they so choose. Please see our Birth Plan with RPW page for our common practices, helpful information, and a sample birth plan template. We also work closely with doulas, or labor coaches, if patients prefer an additional level of support through labor.
Childbirth the way you want it. Expertise when you need it.™
Labor is a natural process, and many patients prefer as little intervention as possible. We strongly support their choice and rely on our expertise to recognize and treat any situation that can be harmful to the mother or baby. Other patients desire closer monitoring or the use of pain relief options, such as a warm bath, shower, pain medications or an epidural. Regardless of what you desire, you can feel confident that RPW will help you throughout this awe-inspiring journey.
Our Approach to Obstetrical Care
Giving birth is obviously the most important part of your pregnancy. We believe that going through labor and delivering your baby is not the time to meet a physician for the first time. Since there is an equal chance that any of our five physicians might attend your delivery, we ask that you schedule at least one prenatal appointment with each of them. All of our physicians will have a chance to get to know you and your family and help make your delivery a healthy and rewarding experience. Our physicians meet weekly to discuss issues with patients so you are receiving the advantage of input from multiple physicians combined into one plan of care.
We strive to provide obstetrical care of the highest quality. Please click here to learn more about our low Cesarean section rates.
We strive to offer a broad range of obstetrical services within the convenience of our offices, while maintaining excellent quality. We provide in-office ultrasound exams, first trimester genetic screening, lab draw services and fetal heart rate monitoring. For those services that we cannot provide in the office, we work with a large array of trusted subspecialists, therapists and counselors. For obstetrical patients with certain higher risk conditions, we care for patients in consultation with maternal fetal medicine specialists, geneticists and genetic counselors. We also partner with psychologists, therapists or psychiatrists to care for patients with mental health issues during or following their pregnancy. As a private practice, we are not bound to one institution or group, so we can refer you to where we believe you will get the best care.
